Fierce Feminine Soul-6.png

February 26th — March 7th, 2019

Are you tired of hiding, holding back, or playing small, or seeking to please others?

Are you ready to release that wild creature from captivity and allow yourself to truly shine?

Are you ready to reclaim your birthright of feeling wholly sovereign in yourself, and deeply connected to your innate source of feminine power?

⁣If your answer is yes, I invite you to join me for this 10-day embodied training in the feminine path of yoga, tantra, sacred dance, and deep aliveness.

Bringing a combined teaching experience of over 20 years in yoga and dance, your teachers — Jessica and Rekha — will empower you to reclaim your yoga practice in a way that’s truly supportive to the feminine body, psyche, and spirit.

This program is aimed at empowering you to be the incredible woman that you are. Informed by the embodied language of Odissi dance and the life-philosophy of Tantra, you will develop the capacity and stamina to embody deep aliveness, radiance, and power; as well as fluidity, sensuousness, and grace. Not only will you receive a fresh tool-box of subtle practices and new shapes to embody, but you will leave this program rooted in a yoga practice and relationship to yourself that is soft, fluid, feminine, and internal — yet strong and powerful.

The Lasya Yoga Immersion is for soulful women who are ready to embody their feminine brilliance and shamelessly shine it into the world. If you are looking for an immersive experience that will offer a breakthrough into your authentic feminine power — as well as nourish your creativity, productivity, and soul mission in this world — this is the program for you.

About Lasya Yoga

FB profile two.jpeg

Lasya is a Sanskrit word meaning "the sensuous movements of the divine feminine."

Lasya Yoga seeks to forge the feminine path of yoga by exploring the crossovers of yoga, tantra, sacred dance, feminine alchemy, and embodied spirituality. Rather than pushing and pulling our bodies into various shapes through willfulness, coercion, and repetition, Lasya Yoga seeks to reclaim yoga postures, movement, and meditation as holy opportunities to realign our bodies with our longings, heart energy, sensual awakening, and feminine brilliance. This program will seek to unwind some of the patriarchal teachings of the yoga tradition in favor of a movement and meditation practice that’s truly supportive and inclusive to the feminine body, psyche, and spirit.

Dance as yoga

Rekha Tandon is a performer, choreographer, and researcher informed by her long-standing yoga practice. Her work has explored the common ground between classical and contemporary values in dance practice. This has encompassed her approach to embodiment, choreography, performance, and teaching. She is also a certified yoga teacher from the Bihar School of Yoga.

Rekha completed 17 years of traditional training in Odissi with Ms. Madhavi Mudgal, Guru Trinath Maharana, and Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra. She also completed her PhD at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance in London. Her recent book, Dance as Yoga – The Spirit and Technique of Odissi, examines Odissi from the perspective of the tantric body map as a blueprint for Indian dance sadhana.

Rekha’s formal engagements have been supplemented with explorations in other energy-based bodywork techniques such as Qi Gong, Pranic Healing, Reiki, Somatics, and Vipassana Meditation.

About the LOCATION

This training is hosted by Verite Retreat Center — located within the internationally-famous town of Auroville in Tamil Nadu, India.

Auroville is an international community dedicated to realizing human unity through peace, harmony, service, and sustainable living. Founded on the principles of sacred geometry and the yogic teachings of Sri Aurobindo, Auroville seeks to be a universal town where men and women of all countries are able to live in peace and progressive harmony above all creeds, all politics, and all nationalities.

Vérité focuses on ecological concerns, health, wellness, and spiritual practice-in-action in its efforts to become a center for integral development in service to Auroville and its guests. Vérité features sustainable infrastructure, alternative energy, a community-based guest house, organic garden, orchard, kitchen, and facilities for classes, retreats, and other programs. Inspired by the Integral Yoga of Sri Aurobindo, and guided by the ideals of Auroville, the Vérité project was built on the cornerstones of sustainability, community, health, healing, and spiritual practice.

Just outside Auroville is the unique East-meets-West city of Pondicherry. Formerly a French colony, on one side of the canal you’ll find a city with pastel-colored French colonial architecture, Mediterranean-style houses, cobblestone roads, bakeries, and classic French cuisine (even good wine!). On the other side, you’ll find a city very much alive with the Tamil language, dance, poetry, and Hindu religion.

Pondicherry is also a coastal town with a slew of beautiful beaches. Throughout the training, we will frequent Pondicherry to enjoy a fabulous dinner in the French Quarter, do some leisurely shopping and sightseeing, and take an evening stroll along the beautiful seaside promenade.

"I cannot express in words the love, transformation, and joy I found in Jessica’s guidance while in India. Traveling to India for me was a life-changing experience of exploring, expanding, and being open to the joy of all senses and all emotions. Jessica has a heart as big as the world and I'm so thankful for the teachings, love, and poetry she shared along the journey."

 Rebecca Ufkes, India retreat participant.

"I was so blown away at the richness of Jessica's retreat. It was amazing, illuminating, transformative, and was exactly what I needed. I'm so thankful to practice and study under Jessica — an incredibly brave and lovely soul!"

— Amy Thome, India retreat participant.

Through her knowledge, life experience, explorations, and profound insight, Jessica easily drew my awareness to what now seems obvious to me: I already embody all that I am seeking. I can trust my deep intuitive wisdom. And I can risk being my true self out in the world. For the first-time I have real tools to connect to my authentic self and embrace life through full-bodied living.

Jessica listens deeply and creates wise, insightful recommendations and practices that get right to the heart of the matter you are seeking to address. She clearly identifies the limiting stories we tell ourselves to keep our world small and to stay stuck. I’ve gained more realization and growth in a few short weeks with Jessica than years of therapy could provide.

Frequently Asked Questions.

What is Lasya Yoga?

Lasya Yoga forges the feminine path of yoga by exploring the crossovers of yoga, tantra, sacred dance, and embodied spirituality. Rather than pushing and pulling our bodies into various shapes through willfulness, coercion, and repetition, Lasya Yoga seeks to reclaim yoga postures and movements as holy opportunities to realign our bodies with our longings, heart energy, sensual awakening, and feminine brilliance.

Lasya is a Sanskrit word meaning "the sensuous movements of the divine feminine." Lasya is a term used to describe the dance of Parvati (Shiva's wife and embodiment of Shakti). It's believed that Parvati danced the Lasya in response to the male energy of Shiva's cosmic dance of Tandava. Similarly, Lasya Yoga seeks to reclaim the abandoned well of feminine wisdom, movement, and spirituality, in response to a male-dominated yoga lineage embedded with built-in inhibitions and fears towards women's wildness, pleasure, sensuality, and joy.

Who is this immersion for?

Women who are interested in a deep and embodied exploration of yoga, tantra, feminine spirituality, and sacred dance.

Women who desire to develop the capacity and stamina to embody deep aliveness, radiance, and power — as well as fluidity, sensuousness, and grace.

Women who desire to move their bodies in new, non-linear ways, while exploring all the delicate textures and sensations of their feminine body.

Women who are seeking a yoga and meditation practice that’s inclusive of their feminine anatomy, psyche, and experience.

Women who are ready to accept, embody, and express the full spectrum of the feminine without apology.

Yoga teachers and/or practitioners who'd like to design their classes and/or practices in a way that honors and explores the divine feminine.

Do I need to be a yoga teacher to take this training?

Nope! This training is for yoga teachers and yoga practitioners alike! As well as those with curiosities in Tantra, feminine spirituality, and sacred dance.

Do I need to have previous dance experience in order to take this training?

Not at all! This is a beginner-friendly experience catered towards those excited to embody new shapes and movements!

What is Odissi Classical Indian Dance and how does it apply to yoga?

Odissi is a classical Indian dance that originated in the Hindu temples of Odisha — an eastern coastal state of India. Odissi was performed in the temples by dancers called Maharis, or servant-wives of God, whose spiritual dance symbolized a self-surrender of both body and soul to the Divine Lover. Love is one of the paradigmatic values in Indian religions. In Odissi, this theme is expressed through sensuous love poems and metaphors of sensual devotion, sexual union, and longing for God.

Odissi is psycho-physical in nature with the same premise as the yoga tradition — transcendence of mind by working with the physical body and its vital energy, or life-force. In India, dance is considered the highest form of yoga sadhana. The bhakti, commitment, devotion, and honing of mind, body, and spirit, make dance one of the highest, and most nuanced, vehicles for realizing one's divinity. However, while the yoga tradition stems predominately from a male-dominated lineage, Odissi has it's origins in a female tradition and spiritual practice, qualifying it as one of several disciplines to study on the feminine path of yoga.

Will this program certify me to teach yoga or Odissi dance?

No, this training is not certifying in any way. You will receive a certificate of completion for 50 hours of continuing education. However, this training does not certify one to teach yoga, or Odissi dance. The purpose of this training is embodiment; not performance or professional accrediation. Therefore, our approach to the study of Odissi will not emphasize choreographic compositions so much as internalize fundamental movement and philosophical premises of both yoga and tantra.

What will I get out of this training?

In-depth, experiential training in how to reclaim your yoga and meditation practice in light of your feminine essence and power.

A yoga practice that is soft, fluid, internal, feminine, open, and playful that explores what it means to move with the truth of the body.

A breakthrough into your authentic feminine power that nourishes your creativity, productivity, and soul mission in the world.

A new tool-box of subtle practices — mantra, mudra, visualization, and ritual — to incorporate into your personal practice and teaching.

The opportunity to become a creative voice forging out the feminine path and redefining what it means to be a yogini today.

Empowered leadership training to help you to pass on your knowledge and clarity to others.

Deep, rich friendships and the opportunity to be supported by a like-minded group of women.

The opportunity to experience first-hand the whole-life transformation and awakening that the country of India imparts.

Why does the program take place in Auroville, India?

Our beloved Odissi teacher, Rekha Tandon, lives, works, and creates in Auroville. Auroville is also one of my favorite places in South India. So much so, I have traveled there three times already. Auroville is a town built on the premise of spiritual practice-in-action and the lived concept of yoga — making it the ideal environment to dive deep into the practices of yoga, tantra, and Odissi.

What airport do I fly into?

You will arrange your flights to and from the Chennai International Airport (MAA). I will arrange a safe and reputable taxi driver to pick you up and transport you to Verite retreat center. Your driver will be waiting outside the airport with a placard with your name on it upon your arrival.
